چکیده

A complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS)-compatible carrier-injection plasmonic micro-ring modulator (CIPMRM) is designed and analyzed theoretically. The CIPMRM has a compacted footprint of 49.3 μm2 (R = 2 μm), bit rate 36.5 Gbps, insertion loss −9.8 dB, static extinction ratio 21.7 energy consumption 4.40 pJ/bit as 2.2 V peak-to-peak voltage applied at 1550 nm. Besides, the method resonance tuning by carrier concentration proposed to compensate for wavelength mismatch between laser, resulting from temperature line width variation CIPMRM. This faster response time greater ability shift resonant compared with thermo-optic tuning. scheme provides route realizing size optoelectronic integration.

Reversible structure manipulation by tuning carrier concentration in metastable Cu2S.

The optimal functionalities of materials often appear at phase transitions involving simultaneous changes in the electronic structure and the symmetry of the underlying lattice. It is experimentally challenging to disentangle which of the two effects--electronic or structural--is the driving force for the phase transition and to use the mechanism to control material properties. Here we report t...

12.5 Gbit/s carrier-injection-based silicon micro-ring silicon modulators.

We show a scheme for achieving high-speed operation for carrier-injection based silicon electro-optical modulator, which is optimized for small size and high modulation depth. The performance of the device is analyzed theoretically and a 12.5-Gbit/s modulation with high extinction ratio >9dB is demonstrated experimentally using a silicon micro-ring modulator.

Hot Carrier Extraction with Plasmonic Broadband Absorbers.

Hot charge carrier extraction from metallic nanostructures is a very promising approach for applications in photocatalysis, photovoltaics, and photodetection. One limitation is that many metallic nanostructures support a single plasmon resonance thus restricting the light-to-charge-carrier activity to a spectral band. Here we demonstrate that a monolayer of plasmonic nanoparticles can be assemb...

A CMOS-Compatible, low-energy consumption Franz-Keldysh effect Plasmonic Modulator Active Region

In this abstract we report on the design of a low energy consumption CMOS-compatible FranzKeldysh effect plasmonic modulator. The main characteristics of the modulator were determined using integrated electro-optical simulations. A 3.3 dB extinction ratio for a 30 μm long modulator was demonstrated under 3 V bias voltage at an operation wavelength of 1647 nm. The estimated energy consumption wa...

Hardware Trojan by Hot Carrier Injection

This paper discusses how hot carrier injection (HCI) can be exploited to create a trojan that will cause hardware failures. The trojan is produced not via additional logic circuitry but by controlled scenarios that maximize and accelerate the HCI effect in transistors. These scenarios range from manipulating the manufacturing process to varying the internal voltage distribution. This new type o...
